Our Favorite Backpacking Trips for 2023

Our team at Jetboil is made up of avid adventurers who love to be outdoors. We work hard but like to play just as much, enjoying a wide range of activities – backpacking, hiking, cooking great meals in a flash. And just like you, we always bring our Jetboil’s along for the ride.

A few of us even have special trips planned for this year, and we’re so excited that we wanted to share them with you in hopes that they might inspire some new ideas for you and your camping crew.

Tour du Mont Blanc

Backpacking System – MightyMo (Compact and Versatile)

I’m excited to be taking on a bucket list backpacking trip this year in beautiful Alps mountain range. This year I will attempt to cross the borders of Italy, Switzerland and France on foot, on the famous Tour du Mont Blanc trek. This 105-mile-long hike boasts and elevation gain and loss of over 32K feet, and I plan to spend 10 days on the trail. It’s not all tough though!  This scenic hike takes you through quaint mountain villages making restocks (French baguettes, cheese and wine for me!) easy.

Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim

Backpacking System – Flash (Tried and True)

I have a few highly anticipated backpacking trips this year, but this is the year that I finally hike the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim. As a Arizonan this trip feels like a right of passage, a trip that has been on my bucket list since the first time I backpacked Havasupai. I have hiked into the Canyon throughout the years, for fishing trips, backpacking trips and quick day hikes. This is the year I attempt the suffer fest, type 2 fun that is R2R2R. The hike is 48 mile and climbs 14k feet, many hike it in a day but I plan on spending one night at the bottom of the canyon.

White Mountains – My Son’s First Backpacking Trip

Backpacking System - Stash

My son started on his New England 67 4,000 footers 2 years ago at 8 years old and is fully hooked.  Having him with me to wrap up my last of the NH48 4,000 footers, along with some great friends and even my Dad (talk about life goals!), was special beyond anything I can describe.  Towards the end of last year, as my son’s stamina and strength continued to improve he expressed interest in overnight trips and staying in the mountains.  I am so excited to share with him the experience of watching the sun set and rise from atop New England.  We haven’t picked our destination yet for his first backpacking trip, with so many to choose from, but I am beyond excited to see him experience this adventure no matter which peak we end up on.

Alpine Lake Camping in Colorado

Backpacking System - Stash

This year I’m planning a backpacking trip to Willow Lake Basin in Southern Colorado. Nestled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range, Willow Lake is a part of a series of alpine lakes surrounded by 14,000 foot peaks. Although only 5 miles, the hike can be long and strenuous, as I will be gaining a huge amount of elevation to get to the basin. The backpacking trip is popular for folks who are “bagging 14‘ners” because the basin is a good jumping off point for 3 popular mountains. I don’t plan on hiking any 14ners while I’m up there, instead I’ll be fishing the lakes and streams and enjoying the company of big horn sheep. After a couple nights of type 2 fun in the mountains, I’m looking forward to rewarding myself with a beer in the hippy town of Crestone, CO which sits at the base of the Sangres.
